The export brace was first used in 1965 on cars being exported out of the country which traditionally had rough roads. The car's unibody construction was prone to twisting and flexing and could lead to shock tower fatigue and cracking. That's why Shelby used them on 1965-1967 GT350s. The other reason is that by bracing the chassis they improve handling. This Scott Drake export brace is designed specifically for 1965-1966 models. Previous reproductions were based on 1968-1970 models and required modification for 1965-1966 cars.
Exclusive to Scott Drake, this part is manufactured on new tooling from heavy gauge steel finished with black paint like original. The deep draw stamping has proper ribbing for maximum rigidity and an original appearance. Export braces should be installed in conjunction with an Export Brace Mounting Plate that goes at the firewall/cowl lip. The brace is sold separately.
